Do you believe in the Power of Visualisation?
Did Rhonda Byrne’s “The Secret” change your life??
Were you inspired by SRK’s words- “Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho … to puri kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai” (When you really desire something from the heart and soul, all the universe conspires you to achieve it, also mentioned in the “Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho )???
But what if that exact thing turns out to the Nightmare of your life?!!!
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Billie Eilish.
At just 14 years old, this teen started writing songs about topics which are SO deep, ghoulish and hard-hitting reality, that you’d wonder what made this girl so sad! Her “ethereal” soprano vocal range just adds to the mix. Might I say, her music is not for the weak hearted. Billie writes a lot about surreal dreams, strong emotions and her struggles with mental health. But nonetheless, she never stops amusing me!
For instance, in this song, Billie grapples with her sudden fame and opens up about a terrifying nightmare, she had about committing suicide. On waking up, Finneas (her brother) helped her survive through the spiralling. The lyrics describe this episode and her protective relationship with her brother.
And you say, “As long as I’m here
No one can hurt you
Don’t wanna lie here
But you can learn to
If I could change
The way that you see yourself
You wouldn’t wonder why you hear
They don’t deserve you”
When you’re getting recognised for something you did just for fun, there’s a lot of pressure to maintain consistency. E.g. you started a new workout regime which gave you positive results; but for some reason you stopped doing it and laid back into your old habits of binge-eating. You’ll be judged by everyone you know saying things like, “Oh, you’ve gained some weight here (poking your belly)” “ You looked good in high school, what happened?” You should eat a salad”
Imagine this happen on a larger scale; it can drive a perfectly normal person insane. I’m not justifying suicidal tendencies here; but you hardly know what goes through someone’s mind, till it happens to you. The only thing one can do is- Be Kind.
‘Everything I wanted’ is a strong reminded that doesn’t matter what life throws at you, you’ll survive. Till then please hang on, it gets better always…
